Built and dedicated to Amaterasu-omikami, a Japanese goddess, Ise Jingu Shrine is made up of two primary shrines and right around 125 additional smaller shrines. This is considered one of the most sacred and holy Japanese sites on earth, and access to it is granted on a very controlled basis: The individual entering must be of royal lineage, as well as a male or female member of the priesthood.
