All finalists in the Weather Photographer of the Year 2016 competition - a brand new contest judged by The Royal Meteorological Society and The Royal Photographic Society - certainly put the UK's thunderstorms this week down a few notches. More than 800 photographs were submitted earlier this year, with winners across various categories announced last weekend at the Royal Meteorological Society's Amateur Meteorologists' Conference in Reading.

Overall Weather Photographer of the Year 2016 was awarded to Tim Moxon for Tornado on Show. Mr Moxon said this was 'one of the most photogenic tornadoes of the year', snapped near the town of Wray, Colorado. These stunning images represent some of the world's most dramatic weather events.
