Hindustan Motors Sells Ambassador to Peugeot
Hindustan Motors launched the Morris Oxford series II (Landmaster) in a new avatar with minor changes as the Ambassador brand seven decades ago. The car has ruled Indian auto market and stayed as a national icon till the 1980s, when the Maruti 800 exposed its inadequacy. In the mid-1980s, 24,000 units were sold in year which reduced to less than 2,500 units in 2013-14.
