Nanook of the North - 1922
Nanook of the North
is a 1922 American silent documentary film by Robert J. Flaherty, with elements of docudrama, at a time when separating films into documentary and drama did not yet exist. For good or ill, Nanook of the North is the Birth of a Nation of documentary film. It cast a shadow just as dark and wide over the films in its wake, it established the grammar and syntax of the classical feature documentary at a stroke.
