And of the 57 per cent of people whose last break was a couples' holiday, 81 per cent said the trip had been booked by the woman, with men taking control of just 9 per cent of bookings.

The remaining 10 per cent said that they had been booked jointly in terms of the organisation. Online travel agency www.sunshine.co.uk carried out the survey of 1,855 over 18s after noticing the majority of holiday bookings were made by women.
