We only have 12 minutes to impress someone on a first date, a new study reveals.

Research released today shows it takes just a few minutes for us to decide whether we are keen on someone new. Singletons will be immediately judged on their smile (64 per cent), whether they make eye contact (58 per cent) and their tone of voice (25 per cent).

The new research, carried out by AXA, quizzed 2,000 people about their first dates experiences. Body odour was found to be the most off-putting characteristic for six in ten hopeful singles (59 per cent), followed by bad breath (53 per cent). Meanwhile, four in ten of us (38 per cent) get turned off if their date starts swearing.
