His father Harivansh Rai Bachchan wanted to name him Inquilab which means 'revolution' but later named him Amitabh which means 'brilliance unlimited'.
Amitabh Bachchan's real surname was Shrivastava and Bachchan was actually the pen name chosen by his poet father. Amitabh liked this name and used it as his surname.
He worked in Calcutta for the shipping firm Shaw & Wallace as executive and as a freight broker for Bird and Co. His first salary was Rs 500.
