There are typical signs of unbalanced blood sugars. Blood sugar balance is not just something for diabetics to consider. We all have to be considerate about our blood sugars because they are foundational to health and how we feel every day. Rollercoaster blood sugars will take us on highs after a sugar hit and lows just hours later.

The impact can ride on through the night and disrupt our sleep as well as our ability to lose weight, balance hormones, and stabilize our mood. It can become a vicious cycle but there is a way .out

To balance blood sugars there are a few things you can do instantly: 

1. Eat 3 meals a day and try not to snack: Every time we eat, we raise our blood sugars. The more frequently we do that during the day the more of a rollercoaster ride we are on. 

2. If you have to snack, due to time between meals, make it a protein-based snack: Eat eggs, edamame, hummus, veg sticks, fruit and nut butter, roasted chickpeas.

3. Include a source of protein with every meal: Protein takes longer for the stomach to digest which can slow down the release of carbohydrates (aka sugars) and reduce the blood sugar spike. 

4. Make your carbohydrates complex: Such as whole grains, quinoa, beans, pulses, and root vegetables. They breakdown into sugar slower than white bread, pasta, rice, cakes, sweets, biscuits

5. Stay hydrated: So often we feel hungry or in need of a pick-me-up when actually we are just in need of water to replenish what we have lost. Do not get too overwhelmed. Pick one thing to start with this week and build on it.
